Things to do

Activities

Activities in Victoria and at Bear Mountain Resort are so many and varied, that when visiting you are more likely to run out of time than run out of things to do. Your ideal holiday may call for doing a lot in a short time or, on the contrary, little of anything during a lengthy stay. Either way, the Island is bursting with attractions and things to do that provide the perfect mix of excitement and relaxation.

Bear Mountain & Area

Enjoy a variety of activities and attractions at Bear Mountain and surrounding areas. From golfing on the Bear Mountain Jack and Steve Nicklaus co-designed Mountain course and the Nicklaus Design Valley course, to enjoying a swim in the pool at the Mountainside Athletic Club, Bear Mountain Resort has something for the whole family to enjoy.

Surrounding the Bear Mountain Resort community you will find walking and biking trails including the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. Formerly a rail line, the Galloping Goose is a picturesque multi-use trail that moves through urban, rural and wilderness scenery on its 55-kilometre journey from Victoria to Sooke. If hiking is what you enjoy, you can climb the 1,374 foot Mount Finlayson located right in our backyard.

Visit the many attractions in the area including the All Fun Recreation Park, Fort Rodd Hill and the Fisgard Lighthouse. Or tour the grounds of the beautiful Royal Roads University where you will find Hatley Castle and the newest form of treasure hunting - geo cashing.

Victoria

From museums and castles to whale watching and kayaking, wine and beer tours, gardens and zoos, Victoria's attractions invite visitors into a world of history, entertainment and colour. Take a guided horse drawn carriage tour or stroll at your own pace. The only catch to visiting Victoria's attractions is that you will want to come back again and again.

Victoria attractions and activities are also popular with families and are often the ideal place to let kids run wild. Young visitors will delight in discovering local marine life, bugs, butterflies and farm animals. They can assist in carving a native totem pole or dig for minerals in a scratch patch. Recreation centers, swimming pools, waterslides and mini-golf are always a favourite in any city.

You can feel the pulse of a city through its arts and entertainment and, as British Columbia's capital city, Victoria is alive with culture. Victoria, Bear Mountain and surrounding areas boast a year-round schedule of cultural entertainment bursting with talent. Experience British Columbia's parliament buildings, live theatre, art exhibits and galleries, music concerts, summer festivals and film. Be moved. Be inspired. Be entertained.

Victoria

Victoria and Vancouver Island are home to numerous art galleries, exhibits, music concerts and summer festivals. You can walk from gallery to gallery in Victoria's downtown core or drive the country roads to visit artisans' studios. Paintings, prints, sculpture, glass, wood and pottery can all be found and the traditional art of the First Nations peoples is also prevalent throughout the Island.

Music for all tastes fills local concert halls, cathedrals, nightclubs and pubs. The Victoria Symphony entertains audiences all year long, but the highlight of its season, and a Victoria tradition, is Symphony Splash: a free concert performed from a barge in the Inner Harbour to over 40,000 people.

Arts festivals throughout the summer and all over the Island celebrate jazz, blues, r&b, folk, independent film, Shakespeare and fringe theatre while buskers and street performers add colour to Victoria’s streets and Inner Harbour.
