As we enjoy the golf season coming into full swing, it is that time of year again for Bear Mountain to do the annual spring aeration on the Mountain Course.
To most golfers aeration is seen as an inconvenience that interrupts their round and causes them to miss putts. Yet without aeration we could have greens that are unplayable.
Aeration achieves three important objectives. It relieves soil compaction, it allows a chance to improve the soil mix and finally it reduces the amount of thatch. Those terms may be foreign to you but it helps to show how important the process is.
In order for grass to grow at such short lengths it is vital for the greens to have healthy roots. With all the golfers walking on the greens as well as greens maintenance equipment the soil becomes compacted. Aeration allows for air pockets under the soil. Without air the roots will die and we will have unplayable greens.
As golfers we sometimes forget the hard work and all the processes necessary to keep the course in the amazing shape it is.
Please remember that aeration is a necessary process and without it we cannot expect well manicured greens in the summer months.
As a reminder we will be doing greens aeration at Bear Mountain on May 11th.
Special rates are in place for the days following aeration. Golfers playing on the 12th and 13th of May can enjoy a rate of $59 dollars. Golfers playing on the 14th can enjoy the rate of $79. All rounds include your shared power cart with GPS, warm up range balls, club valet and cleaning and bottled water.
