Help your golf game with TPI

Greetings fellow Golfers,

As the winter season or off-season for the fair weather golfer gets under way it's time to start thinking about swtiching gears and preparing for next season, or as I like to call it, Your Best Season Ever!

With all you've done for your game, the technology with the $500 driver, your lesson here and there and even for the serious golfer, the couple buckets on the range a week. I'm here to tell you that there is still an undiscovered way to take your game to the next level.

With all we know about the golf swing through 3D motion capture and more and more how the body on the best players in the world work we see one common thing. Physical capabilities. Now, I'm not saying all elite golfers are or need to be chizzled like Tiger, obviously that would help, but if you've watched any golf you know that's not the norm or for that matter the neccessity. The neccessity however is having you the golfer with enough strength, stability, range of motion along with healthy joints and ligaments that you can physical make a proper golf swing.

This is where TPI comes in. TPI, which stands for Titleist Performance Institute, is a collection of golf specific health and fitness information that enables golfers to improve. In order to evaluate a golfers weaknesses or areas to improve we conduct a TPI screen. This 12 screen test enables us to determine areas of strength, weakness and also brings out any injuries that might have been masked over the years. Once the screen is complete and we know the areas needing improvement I, as your TPI certified instructor, presribe a exercise routine that will strengthen the weak areas.

For an example of how this works, I'll give you a quick scenario. During the 12 screen test, my student struggles with the Overhead Deep Squat test, I test and it confirms that his lower body cannot support the squat. This indicates to me that he may have limited dorsi flexion and would not be physically capable to brace or flex his ankles correctly, which can lead to poor ball striking due to loss of posture. Once this is explained to the student I take him to the range to confirm my hypothesis that he in fact loses his posture. The next step for me as an instructor is to get him over to a fitness professional to take him through some excercises to fix the problem. After a few weeks of excercise we re-test the over head deep squat and see how the posture through the swing is improved.

Now, this seems simple, well it's because it is. Simply put, your improvement at the game of golf can and is often limited by your physical abilities. With TPI, the screening, excercises and education we can unlock your hidden potential.
