Bear Mountain's Tony Harris Wins BC Pro Championship

VICTORIA (October 1, 2009): Len Barrie, President and CEO of Bear Mountain Resort today congratulated course head professional Tony Harris on winning the fourth annual Callaway Golf PGA of BC Club Professional Championship, which was played at Bear Mountain this week.

Tony Harris and Len BarrieHarris shot a three-under-par 68 in the first round, and had a four-shot lead heading into round two. He followed up by carding a five-over-par in the second round, struggling against heavy rain and blustery conditions throughout the final round.

Tony finished the tournament with a two-over 144, and a one-shot victory, earning him $1,750. Harris has 20 years in the golf industry, has won more than 15 professional tournaments, and counts Ernie Els among his golf heroes.

"To us, Tony is the simply best pro in BC and this win is a testament to his skill and commitment to the game, and to the quality of the people we have here at Bear Mountain," Barrie said. "Anyone coming to Bear Mountain can clearly count on Tony to provide valuable insight and advice when it comes to improving their game."

Barrie adds Tony's familiarity with the course may have played a role in his win. "Knowing how to approach some of the rolling greens on our Valley Course can make a big difference in the outcome of any match here. It's the kind of knowledge Tony uses to help golfers play their best possible game on our course."

Bear Mountain Resort is the first - and only - resort in Canada able to offer golfers a world-class 36-hole challenge on a Nicklaus Design course, and will host the 2010 TELUS World Skins Game on June 21st and 22nd.
