Bear Mountain Commemorates the Sacrifices of Military Veterans
Remembrance Day – also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day – is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war specifically since the First World War. For the second consecutive year, Bear Mountain Resort is actively remembering these brave men and women by dedicating a special $35.00 green fee for three days, November 11th – 13th recognizing Canadian’s who have served or who are serving within the Canadian Military.
"Whether you want to challenge yourself or simply hone your basic skills, a round of golf is a contemplative experience ideal for reflection, sighs, tears and laughter. We felt that simply remembering those who have or who are fighting to defend homelands around the world was not enough – we wanted to offer these brave men and women something tangible – a chance to escape for a few hours," explains Tony Harris, Head Professional at Bear Mountain Resort. "My mother, Kathleen Harris, served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps, trained at Camp Borden in Ontario and was later stationed in Vancouver at Jericho Beach during the Second World War. She was an honorary life member of the Legion and ran the Poppy Fund for many years. Over her 50 years, she served at the White Rock Legion #8 on the Executive Committee and held a number of positions as membership chairman, First and Second Vice President and the honorary Treasurer. I am extremely proud of her accomplishments and service to our country. My mom was also an avid golfer and her love for the game was a catalyst for my career choice. This opportunity to remember those who are a part of Canada's military history is very close to my heart. "Lest we forget" to us also means, let's remember what is important and who we want to spend our time with."
With proper ID, Military Veterans can golf between November 11 and November 13 for half price. To book tee times, call 250-744-2327.
