Corporate Fitness is Working Out!

Corporate Fitness is a health service that helps businesses and individual workers attain one of the greatest gifts of all - that of good health. Personal gains, such as improved self-esteem and self-motivation, combined with measurable benefits will create tremendous advantages for both the employer and the employee. Studies have shown that companies that implement employee fitness programs employ happier, healthier and more productive workers.

The medical journal of Physician and Sports Medicine reports, on average, employees who participate regularly in corporate fitness programs lose 13% body fat; lower their blood pressure; increase their strength and aerobic capacity; and feel much better overall. Companies that implement employee fitness programs can expect reduced absenteeism; reduced employee turnover; increased productivity; and increased job satisfaction. A win-win situation!

The staff of the Mountainside Athletic Club at Bear Mountain would like to help you achieve a healthier, happier, more productive team through effective fitness at the best corporate rates. Our corporate price structure offers affordable fitness, gives your employees the opportunity to feel good about themselves, and in turn, be more productive at work.

Megan Shumka

Megan Shumka is a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor at the MAC. Fitness has always been a big part of Megan's life. As a student, she was a competitive dancer and went on to synchronized figure skating where she competed at the national level. The gym became an interest for Megan during high school where she began participating in fitness classes and got hooked; enjoying the movement and music much like her earlier interests.

Megan is certified with BCRPA as a Group Fitness Leader and Personal Trainer. She is a Canfitpro Mind Body Fitness Specialist and Pre & Post Natal Exercise Specialist. Her education includes a Certificate in Health & Fitness from Simon Fraser University. Most recently, Megan has completed her Yoga Teacher training with a RYT200 designation and is registered with the Yoga Alliance.

She has now been working in the industry for over ten years and can be found leading classes at the MAC such as low impact, step, yoga, body sculpting, spinning and aqua fit.

Outside of the MAC, Megan has completed the 56 km Great Lake Walk, participated in The Run for the Cure as well as the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life...Fight Back!

Megan's passion definitely lies with her family. Her favourite thing in the whole wide world is spending time with her partner Mark and 6 year old son Evan. On her days off, Megan enjoys volunteering at Evan's school, working out (of course), cooking, movies and planning her next family trip.

Thom Constable

Thom has been with the MAC since its inception in November 2005 and is very committed to his personal health and fitness goals making him an excellent motivator and creative trainer to work with.

Thom's journey in the realm of fitness began twelve years ago, when he enrolled in a “Fitness 10” class as his Junior High School. In eight months, he went from a sloppy 135 lbs (“remember now, I’m quite short”), to a lean 125 lbs, and then up to a more muscular 150 lbs (Thom notes at this point he was 15 years old, and about 5’3” – 5’4”, so he is entitled to say ‘more muscular’). He went from saying, “because of my genetics, I’m only really good at sprinting”, to running 10 kms.

Thom knows what it takes to achieve your fitness goals; whatever they may be. If you want to achieve success (or increase your level of awesomeness), then you should come see Thom.

Thom’s certifications include; Russian Kettlebell Instructor (RKC); BCPRA Personal Trainer; Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy, with Honours; and he is a Published Author in the area of Philosophy. Thom is currently completing his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Victoria. Thom’s personal interests involve spending time with his family (especially his wife Tanya, son Tavish and daughter Mia); philosopgy; kettlebell training; weightlifting; hiking; and watching movies.
