This week, I’ve got a couple of wines from the other half of California; Sonoma. I feel like wine from Napa always gets centre stage and that’s kind of unfair. Rodney Strong was founded over 50 years ago in Sonoma by a dancer of the same name. During these years, Rod made a lot of mistakes, some great wines, and purchased some of the most sought after sites in Sonoma. The interesting bit about Rodney Strong wines is that almost all of them are single vineyard wines. They are often named as such on the labels. This started in Chalk Hill when he planted Chardonnay. Chalk Hill AVA is one of the most prestigious areas for Chardonnay in Sonoma County. Following this Rod went on to plant Pinot Noir in the Russian River Valley and was one of the first.
Elise Love will be hosting Friday Night Flights this week and she’s got a few other fun wines up her sleeve. See you there!
