VANCOUVER, BC –
April 4, 2017 (Vancouver, BC): A dozen BC businesses have been recognized by the Canadian Cancer Society for their commitment to creating healthy workplaces for their employees. The businesses were acknowledged at an awards ceremony, the Healthy Workplaces Extra Mile Awards, last Thursday evening.
The average Canadian spends about 60 per cent of their waking hours at work, which makes the workplace an ideal setting to educate individuals about healthy behaviours and work together to reduce chronic diseases, including cancer. CCS’ Healthy Workplaces program was designed to provide businesses with simple and effective tools and resources to encourage healthier behaviours among employees.
We are honoured to recognize these businesses for leading their teams to a healthier future,” says Faye Wightman, Interim Executive Director, Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon. “Employee health and wellness is a priority for many businesses owners in our province and these 12 companies are great examples of what hard work, innovation and dedication can achieve when it comes to creating healthy work environments.”
The 2017 awards were split into two main categories – Special Recognition Awards and Extra Mile Awards. The Special Recognition Awards were developed to recognize businesses that excel in a certain area of workplace health; the Extra Mile Awards were designed to celebrate businesses that go the extra mile for employee health. The 2017 recipients are:
