Bear Mountain Resort hosts top U12 BC tennis juniors with Provincial Selection Event
June 23, 2018(Victoria, BC – June 23, 2018) Top U12 tennis players from all over BC will be competing this weekend at the beautiful Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria. We are excited to be able to provide our competitive junior players with a one of a kind event experience at a unique facility and Resort like Bear Mountain Tennis Centre, a member club of Tennis BC.
Since the facility opened last year, it has been a welcome addition to the tennis community and a key partner for the growth of the tennis community in Victoria with Western Canada’s only indoor/outdoor clay tennis centre, which offers numerous benefits for tennis players. Led by an experienced team of dedicated and professional tennis staff and coaches, including Russ Hartley, one of Canada’s leading Tennis Directors with over 40 years of experience and a Tennis Canada Level 3 Professional, the facility can host numerous events and provide a world class learning experience.
This Provincial Selection event is the third in a series of events and is a qualifying event for the 2018 Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals taking place in Mont Tremblant, Quebec from August 21-27. Players competing this weekend are vying a spot on the team that will represent BC in the Nationals event.
Players to watch include Denny Bao, the #1 seed in the boys singles event and 3rd place U12 Singles Finisher & U12 Doubles National Champion at the 2018 Rogers Indoor Junior National Champion which took place earlier this April at UBC. He is from Vancouver and trains at the North Shore Winter Club. The #2 seed in the boys singles event is Matthew Dubas who is the U12 2018 Rogers Indoor Junior Nationals Finalist.
On the girls side, Gabriella Lindgren, ranked 15th Nationally in the U12 girls category, also from Vancouver and training at the North Shore Winter Club, is one to watch and she had a great result earlier this year with wins in the Indoor Selection Series 2 & 3 events.
Victoria is also well represented with over five players from the local community competing. Nolan Burton from Duncan, along with Ivor Emberton, Mustafa Said, and Jonas Hegg from Victoria are a few of the players taking part in the event.
Kicking off on Friday and consisting of both singles and doubles play, the event runs through the weekend with finals on Monday. With the top U12 players all in one place, some great tennis is sure to be expected this weekend at Bear Mountain.
